Adventuring Through Belize, One Tour at a Time

This is part of a series of posts made by Fay describing her time as a social media manager for Beaches & Dreams.

Fay here! In my last post I discussed what I’ve seen of Belize’s culture on my tours. This post is going to talk about my favorite aspect of Belize and its tours: adventure!

There are so many different ways to explore Belize that every tour is a completely unique experience. One day you could be exploring the jungle, and the next you could be diving in the coral reef!

Can Fay Swim? Experts Debate

The snorkel tour was one of the first tours I went on as social media manager, and it was a breathtaking experience. Belize has the second largest barrier reef in the world and the largest living one, which means all of the sights are just as vibrant and colorful as they’re supposed to be. And even if you’re a weak swimmer, the ocean still has room for you. I knew I wanted to worry more about spotting sea creatures than keeping myself afloat, so I happily took a life jacket, even if it was a little embarrassing to see the seven-year-old on the tour without one.

Another great tour was the ATV tour. It was my first time driving one of them on my own, but I got a hold of the ropes pretty quickly. We went out right after it rained, so the roads were full of muddy puddles… and yes, I did get caught in a few. You haven’t experienced the full ATV tour until you have the guide yelling at you to shift gears from the side of the road while your ATV is threatening to topple over into a giant puddle of mud.

Overall, though, the exhilaration of speeding along at full speeds with the wind blowing against you is well worth it. I might have gotten a little dirty, but I had a great time. Just remember: it’s all a part of the adventure!

Let’s Be Honest, It’s Probably The Length

I’m experiencing a lot of these tours for the first time, and it’s been amazing to see into every corner of Belize that I don’t usually get to. Lots of people see living in Belize as going on a permanent vacation, but even though we get the hot weather and ocean view year-round, most of life is taken up by, well, normal life! Being a teenager in Belize isn’t that drastically different from being a teenager anywhere else: lots of worrying about school and spending too much time on the internet. It can be hard to get a break from it all to feel like a tourist for a little while.

There is one tour, though, that I’ve been on more times than I can count: the ziplining tour. Of all the tours I knew I would have to go on for this job, this was the one I was most excited to revisit. And though I’ve discovered lots of new favorites and can say I’ve made good memories on every single tour I’ve been on, I have to admit that nothing compares to ziplining.

Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s personal bias, or maybe it’s just the relief of having a tour that only takes an hour or two instead of a full day, but ziplining is secure in its position as my favorite tour that Beaches & Dreams has to offer. The feeling of zooming above Belize’s jungles, feeling the wind rush past you at high speeds like you’ve really grown wings and taken flight… well, it just can’t be beat.

Signing Off

I still have a few more tours ahead of me! And you could too, if you decide to come to Beaches & Dreams! And say in the email that Fay convinced you to! Okay, fine, that last part’s optional. Follow our social media pages at least?
